How can I tell if I or my child is subluxated?

Outside of a full assessment by a qualified chiropractor, you cannot tell if you or your child is subluxated. There are, however, indicators that point to possible spinal distortion that may involve subluxation. Perform these simple tests on your child or yourself and, if you observe a positive indicator, contact a chiropractor and get a complete evaluation.

Babies:

  • Was the baby?s birth induced, fast slow, forceps, vacuum extraction, caesarean section? These are positive indicators;
  • Does the baby feed well on both breasts?;
  • Is the baby fussy or distressed?;
  • With the baby supine (on his/her back):

  •      -Turn the baby?s head from right to left. Is one side restricted?
         -Side bend the baby?s head from right to left. Is one side restricted?
         -Pull both legs down. Are they the same length?

For children and adults: Standing, with feet at shoulder width apart:

  • Push the person right to left, asking the person to resist. If he/she cannot resist on one side, this is a positive indicator;
  • Ask the person to turn their head from right to left, then to extend back, then flex forward. If there is restriction in any one plane of movement, this is a positive indicator;
  • Observe:

  •      -Are the ears level from the front and above the shoulders from the side?
         -Are the shoulders level?
         -Are the hips level?
  • Person side bends right and then left and extends back & forward. If there is restriction in any one plane of movement, then this is a positive indicator
